As of 2026, Nigeria’s insulated wire and cable market remains a net import-oriented sector, with its major supply sources concentrated in India, China, and Turkey, according to a market analysis report released by IndexBox, a globally authoritative commodity market research platform, on March 23, 2026. Additionally, the combined import share from the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom accounts for 19% of the country’s total insulated wire and cable imports.
The report highlights key price trends and trade data for Nigeria’s wire and cable market. In terms of export performance, the average export price of insulated wires and cables reached $8,680 per ton, representing a year-on-year increase of 380%. The primary export destinations are the United States, the United Kingdom, and Togo, which together account for 72% of Nigeria’s total wire and cable exports.
On the import side, the average import price stood at $7,011 per ton, a 16% year-on-year rise that is significantly lower than the peak of $17,095 per ton recorded in 2015. This price fluctuation reflects changes in global supply chains, raw material costs, and Nigeria’s domestic market demand over the past decade.
Looking ahead to 2035, the IndexBox report predicts that Nigeria’s dependence on imported insulated wires and cables will persist in the long term. However, the expansion of domestic production capacity and the improvement of product quality standards are expected to gradually replace mid-to-low-end imported products. This shift will not only help reduce Nigeria’s foreign exchange expenditure on wire and cable imports but also promote the development of the local manufacturing industry and enhance its competitiveness in the West African market.
